AVR - Doper and Windows 7

Hello!
I've got a problem with Win7: I tried to install the AVR-Doper's Vista driver hoping it would work fine...

...of course it doesn't!

At first glance, everything works fine, when i install the driver manually, but AVR - Studio isn't able to find the programmer (with WinXP there is no problem, so the programmer must be ok).

Then i tried to open the virtual COM port with HTerm (terminal prog): No port found...

My opinion: It must be a driver-problem!

So it would be very nice, if you could make a Win7 driver for the AVR - Doper.
I guess many users will be very thankfull!

Problem solved!

If you want to use the AVR - Doper with Win7, look at this: http://www.recursion.jp/avrcdc/lowbulk.html

You'll need the file "avrcdc_inf.zip"!

In the folder "xpvista7" you' ll find the "lowcdc.inf" file. This is the working driver for Win7!
Just install it manually as known from WinXP!

OK, the problem is not the driver. The signature of the driver is the problem.

If you install the vista 64 Bit driver out of the "avrcdc_inf.zip", windows 7 say you the driver has no signature and disable it.

If you press f8 during the boot up you can disable the signature check. Then it works fine!

But you have to press f8 on every boot up....


I hope that someone build a signature for the driver soon.

So...I get it (with some help from Osamu Tamura).

You have to signature the driver yourself.


Installation for Windows 7 64Bit:

1. Don't install any driver, and don't connect your AVR-Doper!

2. Download the "avrcdc_inf.zip" from http://www.recursion.jp/avrcdc/lowbulk.html

3. Download DSEO from http://www.ngohq.com/home.php?page=dseo

4. Unzip "avrcdc_inf.zip"

5. Start dseo13b.exe, press "Next" and "Yes"

6. Choose "Sign a System File"

7. Type path from lowcdc.inf of the vista64 folder (for example: D:\avrcdc_inf\vista64\lowcdc.inf) and sign

8. Choose "Sign a System File" again and sign lowcdc.sys

9. Choose "Enable Test Mode"

10. Restart System

11. Connect the AVR-Doper, wait until Windows say that he can't find the driver.

12. Open device manager

13. rightclick the AVR-Doper, select update driver

14. Choose the lowcdc.inf

15. Be happy!

I have problems using AVR Doper on windows 7 32bit. I have downloaded and installed firmware from side of the author and also these have by Benny. Neither have worked. I mean programmer is installed correctly but when I want to program my atmega32 in AVR studio 4 or 5 it doesn't see it. Can you help me ?

I recommend against using the CDC drivers. As the drivers are hard to install, it violates the spec, and doesn't work with all USB chips.

It's much easier to use the HID mode as supported by AVRDude.

Maybe, but I've made this programmer especially to use it with AVR studio, while HID mode doesn't do it.

Hello,
as far as I understand, I have to run windows in "test mode" (which I don't really understand what it is) forever. When you turn off "test mode" it doesn't work anymore. Correct?
What is test mode? Is it possible to solve this problem so that I'm able to run windows without "test mode" ?

Hi, I did all the steps that Bimbo385 explains in the post and it worked, BUT ONLY in Test Mode, when I restart the system but disabling Test Mode AVR Studio doesn't recognize the AVR-DOPER, so I really want to know: is there some way the AVR-DOPER works without the Test Mode in Windows 7 of 64 bits???
