ATTiny 2312, with ext 12 Mhz oscillator - hid heyboard

Post by marc2344 » Sun Apr 22, 2012 6:28 pm

Hello community!

After 2 days of fight i have to place a question.

I need to build a simple hid "keyboard", what will send to computer data from ATTiny 2312.

First what i would like to do, is just create application what will write hello world, after plug in, to usb, and have open gedit (notepad for linux).

As a starting point, i use that code:
http://tuxgraphics.org/electronics/2008 ... nter.shtml

I add llittle modifications and problem is, my code don't work...

Project is discovered by "OS".
Syslog throw:

Code: Select all

Apr 22 18:21:33 alan-OEM kernel: [33236.706498] generic-usb 0003:16C0:05DC.00CB: input,hidraw0: USB HID v1.01 Keyboard [tuxgraphics presenter] on usb-0000:00:1d.7-8.3/input0

but it don't type anything.

I have opened gedit, and nothing input.

Code: Select all

  if(usbInterruptIsReady()){

            /* use last key and not current key status in order to avoid lost
               changes in key status. */

//led debug
DDRB |= (1 << PB0);
PORTB ^= (1 << PB0);
//led debug

            buildReport();
            usbSetInterrupt(reportBuffer, sizeof(reportBuffer));
        }
    }

LED shine bright... so that part of code is running.

Here i create my hello world message, scan codes i get from here
http://www.freebsddiary.org/APC/usb_hid_usages.php

Code: Select all

static void buildReport()
{

    reportBuffer[0]=0x0B; //letter h
    reportBuffer[0]=0x08; //letter e
    reportBuffer[0]=0x0F; //letter l
    reportBuffer[0]=0x0F; //letter l
    reportBuffer[0]=0x12; //letter o
    reportBuffer[0]=0x1A; //letter w
    reportBuffer[0]=0x12; //letter o
    reportBuffer[0]=0x15; //letter r
    reportBuffer[0]=0x0F; //letter l
    reportBuffer[0]=0x07; //letter d

I have no experience with implementing a HID keyboard, but some parts of your code do not make much sense:

Code: Select all

buildReport(keyPressed());

buildReport(keyPressed()); buildReport doesn't take any value so why call keyPressed which gives values to it?

Code: Select all

static void buildReport()
{
    reportBuffer[0]=0x0B; //letter h
    reportBuffer[0]=0x08; //letter e
    reportBuffer[0]=0x0F; //letter l
    reportBuffer[0]=0x0F; //letter l
    reportBuffer[0]=0x12; //letter o
    reportBuffer[0]=0x1A; //letter w
    reportBuffer[0]=0x12; //letter o
    reportBuffer[0]=0x15; //letter r
    reportBuffer[0]=0x0F; //letter l
    reportBuffer[0]=0x07; //letter d
}

Every char is written to the same memory location and therefore overwrites old values. So you could also write

Code: Select all

static void buildReport()
{
   reportBuffer[0]=0x07; //letter d
}
which is exactly the same.

Also I think there's no need to call buildReport in both, main() and usbFunctionSetup().

I can say nothing about your usbHidReportDescriptor, usbFunctionSetup and usbSetInterrupt, but I'd suggest you to take an existing example and get it working on your hardware. After that you can strip it down and fit it to your needs.
