v-usb arduino integration

Is it possible to integrate v-usb with the arduino bootloader so that we can get rid of the ftdi chip on the boards

See http://metalab.at/wiki/Metaboard . Not exactly boot-loader compatible, but it can be integrated with the arduino IDE.
