Does anyone know of a good inexpensive AVR programmer? Preferably one that comes put together already. Any recommendations would be helpful.

Yesterday I got started with AVR programming with a GALEP III programmer, Though it's about 7 years old, the manufacturer still provides component data and driver updates. I can recommend the follow-up model GALEP IV.

However, it it took me quite some time to figure out that the oscillator option bits in the GALEP dialog are inverted. Using a simple prototyping programmer or an eval kit (like th)e one from ATMEL) would have made the task easier ;-)

GALEP shurely is a great programmer.
But is it moch to expensive for hobby purposes.
Just use the AVRDoper provided on Objective Development.
Its simple to build, inexpensive and works perfect.
