LS 4.1.2 reading 1+GB from disk at startup.

Postby Magpie » Mon Jul 23, 2018 4:42 am

I've had a bit of trouble with a few programs reading huge amounts of data at startup such as Dropbox, Amazon Drive and Adobe CS, but I was very surprised to find this today when my computer was running painfully slow.

As activity monitor wouldn't show open files and ports, I checked all the files Little Snitch and its bits had open using lsof -n | grep Little and nothing has any significant size. The only thing I've installed lately has been Amazon Drive to back up photos. Could this have anything to do with it?

This is still happening. 1.37GB read today at startup.

Doing some digging, if I remove all the non-locked configuration rules, the usage goes down to 130 or so MB at startup, which is still excessive. It seems, going by the output of fs_usage, that LS is reading information about all the programs that are in the rules, and this is what is causing the excessive usage.

I notice the same thing, and even the same size, about 1.4 GB read at startup. Using 4.1.3 on macOS 10.12.6. I also have high CPU usage, about 50%, by Little Snitch Daemon for a minute or two after startup.

I am having similar issue. For some reason LS is doing lots of reads and writes. I am worried my SSD will wear out soon because of this. Image

LS 4.1.3 Build 5187.
