mysterious numbers

Post by mattn » Wed Jan 11, 2017 4:22 am

What are the mysterious numbers, 1-in-a-box, 2-in-a-box, that sometimes appear at the right end of LaunchBar's window as I'm typing a shortcut?

If you mean this (see screenshot), you can select the action by pressing the corresponding number key.

A long press of the number key will execute the action without further confirmation.

I don't think that's it, but if it were, what would I have had to do (accidentally) to make those numbers appear?

(My memory is that my numbers are associated with an application name and have a line under them, e.g. Xcode 1-in-box-with-line-under. But I can't be sure because I only see this once in a while and it scares me so much that I instantly hit Esc over and over to get out of it.)

The get the above screen just send (Tab key or Instant Send) a file to a folder.

Well, that’s a different thing. ATM I have no idea what that could be.

The only other similar thing that occurs to me is this:

You get this when you have selected multiple entries. The number shows the number of selected entries.

But, the number is not underlined.

You're right. Here's an example:

So the question is, after hitting S to get Safari, what did I hit to get the 1, and what would happen if I now hit Return? It scares me.

Okay, I figured out what I'm doing that summons these mysterious numbers!!! I'm accidentally hitting the COMMA key.

So for example, I go Control-Space (my shortcut for summoning LaunchBar), S, then COMMA, and I get the screen shot shown in the previous post.

So what does the "1" mean and what would happen if I now hit Return?

I figured it out!!!! It's the QuickSilver "comma trick" for opening multiple apps.
