MacUpdate.com Search

Postby randyharris » Thu May 10, 2007 9:26 am

This is one that Norbert actually helped me with a long time ago, I use it all the time.

Code: Select all

Name: MacUpdate
URL: http://www.macupdate.com/search.php?keywords=*
Encoding: UTF-8

I think this is broken now. Anyone else having trouble searching macupdate via launchbar?

They changed their web site. This one works for me now.

Code: Select all

http://www.macupdate.com/find/mac/*

I saw in the release notes for version 5.2 that just came out

"Updated MacUpdate search template in the factory configuration."

Can someone tell me what that is specifically. I just updated to 5.2 and nothing changed, but I had made my own custom one that's this:

http://www.google.com/search?btnI=Googl ... date.com+*

I guess because I made my own version it wasn't replaced by the "factory configuration"? I'm very confused. Did I overwrite the factory configuration and that's why nothing changed in 5.2 or do I need to be looking somewhere else aside from the "Search Templates" section?

As long as your MacUpdate search template looks like this (under Details), it'll work:

Code: Select all

http://www.macupdate.com/find/mac/*

Thank you, Stormchild. I guess I like my custom version better after all. I find that with the default version you just showed it only lists everything in a list. My version will actually take me directly to the page of the app in most cases.

My version:

Code: Select all

http://www.google.com/search?btnI=Google+Search&q=site%3Amacupdate.com+*

Try mine and type in "Photoshop" (minus quotes) and you'll end up on the actual Photoshop app page. Use that default version and it'll take you to a list of apps with Photoshop at the top and then you have to click Photoshop to go to the page.

My custom version doesn't always work properly, but it does about 95% of the time and that saves quite a bit of extra scanning results and clicking most of the time. The default version will sometimes take you directly to the app page (i.e., FinderPop), but mine does it far more consistently utilizing the Google search btnl "hack".
