Spaces-aware templates?

Post by Jay Levitt » Thu Oct 29, 2009 1:54 pm

Is there some way the search templates could become Spaces-aware? When I want to Google something, I want to do it in the current Space; I don't want to switch to an already-open Safari window and create a new tab in it.

I suspect you just hand the URL to Safari and it does its own thing. (My Spaces preferences already have "When switching to an application, switch to a space with open windows for the application" unchecked.)

It would be possible with an AppleScript; if you open a blank Safari window in the current Space, the search templates open in that window - but I don't see a way to give an AppleScript to a search template. Ideas?

I'm on 10.5.8 now, but will upgrade to Snow Leopard at some point soon.

What you'd like to do sounds similar to this recent Mac OS X Hints topic:

Make Safari open links from applications in the current space
