moving hosts and license key?

Post by dereenb » Sun Aug 21, 2011 2:17 am

I have successfully moved a website of mine that uses WebYep to a new hosting account. However, I am being prompted to input the license key again and again. Is this because I have not yet changed the domain DNS to point to the new hosting account? I wanted to make sure everything works on the new hosing account before moving the domain there as well.

WebYep licenses are bound to the host name, so if you move your (licensed) installation to another host, the license won't be valid any more.

This shouldn't be a problem, since WebYep just reverts to demo mode. You can test the new environment and make sure everything works on the new host. The only diference will be the license popup window when you first visit the site. As soon as you're done testing and everything works as expected, you can change the domain record of your new host to match the old host name and voilà: everything will be as before.

However, if you want another host name for your new site, please contact our support.
