Moving an item in LaunchBar 6: extra step?

Postby parneix » Wed Jun 18, 2014 3:52 pm

In LB5 I use to do this:

1) Select item
2) Instant Send (in my case with a modified keyboard shortcut)
3)Type the name of the folder I want to send the item to
4) Confirm name by pressing enter
5) A list of possible action appears: I would press “1” to send the selected item.

Now it seems that LB6 has introduced one more –not quite useful– step in the process. Here’s what I need to do now:

1) Select item
2) Instant Send (in my case with a modified keyboard shortcut)
3)Type the name of the folder I want to send the item to
4) Confirm name by pressing enter
5) A list of possible 6 possible action appears. But if I press one, all it does is shortened the list to two possible actions (move and copy).
6) In order to actually send the item, I need to press enter again.

Is this normal behavior for LB6, or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks a lot

The most efficient, and therefore recommended way would be:

1) Instand Send a selected item to LaunchBar
2) Type the name of the desired target folder
3) Press Command-Return to move or Option-Return to copy the item

That way you can circumvent the list of possible actions at all.

Ah! Fantastic! It works like a charm. Thank you very much for this most useful advice.

Just for the sake of completeness, each of the six available file operations is directly accessible with different modifier key combinations:

  • Command-Return: Move to Folder
  • Option-Return: Copy to Folder
  • Command-Option-Return: Make Alias
  • Control-Return: Make Symbolic Link (Absolute)
  • Control-Option-Return: Make Symbolic Link (Relative)
  • Control-Shift-Return: Make Hard Link
