Updating Apps

Post by SteveH » Fri Sep 14, 2007 8:19 pm

I would like to use LaunchBar to install updated apps from within DMG files but it seems that the final step is not possible. The idea is...

Select the downloaded file from my download folder.

Move it to my Mac_build folder

Open it

Take the app file and move that to Applications

Unfortunrately the last step fails because the app is already present and LaunchBar, unlike Finder or PathFinder, soesn't have a replace option.

Is there anyway to change that?

Regardless of the workaround I'd say it's a missing feature of LaunchBar.

Maybe you should file a feature request for replacing files.

Since "replace" is a usual operation I think it should be added quite fast, LaunchBar's developer is usually VERY responsive to this kind of requests. :-)

For the time being I have 'kind of a workaround' - it should be quick, because you only need key-commands, but it's not really all LaunchBar ;-)

Navigate to the new application in Launchbar.
Copy it via command-c.
Navigate to the folder where it should go in LaunchBar (Applications, I guess) - don't go INTO the folder, just 'select' the folder in LB
Open the folder in finder by pressing command-o
Paste the file in Finder via command-v
If it was already present you will get the Finder replace-window that you can approve by pressing tab (to select replace) than pressing spacebar.

I hope this helped, and sorry if I got some of the names wrong, I'm using a non-english version of OS X and am no native speaker ;-)
