Excluding a Folder and all its Subfolders from being Indexed

I set up a indexing rule to index an external hard drive. On this drive, I want to exclude a folder and all of its subfolders/items from being indexed. I can figure out how to exclude a folder from being indexed, but not its subfolders. I would do it manually by un-checking the folders and items in the index list, but it's tens of thousands of folders and files. If someone could let me know how to exclude a folder and all its subfolders/items, that would rock. Thanks!

I'm not exactly sure ow you exclude this subfolder: If you just uncheck the folder in the index it's subfolders will - of course - still be there.
But if you enter the folder's name as a "skip subfolder" rule in the options tab you should be fine.

I use it tio exclude my Music folder on my external drive, for example. It really should work, but if you still experience issues please provide additional detail, e.g. the name of the folder, how you entered it in the dialog I told you about.

I hoe I could help,

regards,
Ludwig

Yes, the "Skip Subfolders" setting in the rule's Options pane can be used for this purpose.

Right now, this option excludes folders with a matching name, so if there are multiple subfolders with that name, they will all be excluded. The next version of LaunchBar (4.3.3) will allow to skip only a particular folder as well.

Thank you for your responses Ludwig and Norbert. The 'skip subfolders' setting worked. Not sure why I was having trouble with it before. I'm also using this feature to hide my itunes music folder from being indexed. In the 4.3.3 release, will the folder being skipped be selected by browsing a 'open/save' dialog instead of typing in the folder name? I think this would be better. Again, thank you for your help.

You will be able to drag folders to the list.

Is that mostly intended for excluding folders with the same name that always serve the same purpose? Something like .svn or RCS, for instance, although those might already be outside the scope of typical LB indexing.

The next version of LaunchBar (4.3.3) will allow to skip only a particular folder as well.

Cool. I think that'll be more useful to me than simply matching by name.
