How to print a document using LaunchBar 5

Post by parneix » Mon Jan 10, 2011 3:22 am

Hi,

I was wondering if there is a quick way to print a document using Launch Bar. With QuickSilver, I used to simply select the document, invoke QuickSilver, and quick-select my printer. I'm sure there's a similar way to do things with LaunchBar. Any idea?

Thanks a lot,

P.

Hi,

I found the solution and thought I could share it. It's actually quite easy to print any document by simply selecting it in the Finder and using LauchnBar 5:

1) Select the document in the Finder (optionally you could use LaunchBar to find/select the document: in this case, jump to step 3);
2) Perform an "Instant Send" by typing and holding Command-Space (you could also use a modifier tap: see LaunchBar documentation). This will send the selected file to LaunchBar;
3) Press the Tab key to further send the selection the target;
4) Enter the name of your printer (in my case "Brother");
5) Hit Enter and that's it.

The main advantage I find using this method is that I don't have to actually open the document I want to print in it's native application (Word, Pages, etc.)

You can also drag printable documents to a printer's Dock icon (if you keep it there).
