Status of LaunchBar and Google Chrome

Post by rmathes » Wed Dec 22, 2010 2:24 am

So, what's the gig here? I just switched to Chrome and I really like it. Was using OmniWeb, then moved to Safari, now to Chrome and I may have found my browser (just wish I had side tabs). But LB doesn't seem to index Chrome bookmarks or history. I searched the forums here, found a thread from many moons ago talking about this issue but it appears it still hasn't been remedied.

has anyone been in contact with the developers to see if this is something that is coming? It seems like a glaring omission from one of my must-have utilities.

Read here. If you want to get your hands a little dirty, you can get LaunchBar to index your Chrome bookmarks. I don't think anyone's taken the time to do the same for history, but at least you could get bookmarks to work. It's lightning fast at indexing changes too.

yeah, I'd read that thread about how to run the script. For a layman I'm pretty good technically but I felt way out of my element reading that stuff. By the time I finished that thread I honestly had little idea how to proceed.

That said, I have a charter license to BookMacster and for now will just sync my chrome bookmarks to safari (and all my other browsers) and do it that way.

and I did get this reply from tech support:

Chrome support will be added in 5.1. I cannot state a release date for
that but a beta of 5.1 will be available soon.

Chrome support will be available in LaunchBar 5.1.
I cannot state a release date for this now, but a beta will be out soon.

I've been keeping an eye out for the beta on the LaunchBar 5 Release Notes page. Is that where we'll find the beta when you release it?

If you'd like help testing your pre-release "nightly builds" just post a download link and I'd be happy to give it a try.

LaunchBar - Nightly Builds is where you'd look. Nothing about Chrome support in the Change Log (yet).

Thank you. Looks like the last nightly was posted on Dec. 14. Hopefully the next version will have Chrome support. :D
