Use Spotlight, with the "Name"+ "Ends With" criteria.

LaunchBar automatically groups all indexed files in smart groups containing items that share the same type (see the "Items Grouped by Kind" indexing rule).

So you can e.g. type GIFIM to select the "GIF Images" smart group which contains *.gif files only. Now press the space bar to display (and sub-search) the contents of this group.

Note that these smart groups don't just act on filename extensions, but on any other "Kind" information as well (e.g. "Albums", "Phone Numbers", "Playlists", "Folders", "Companies", "Bookmark Folders", etc.)

Thanks, Norbert! I never considered the "Index Grouped by Kind" rules. LB is much faster than using Spotlight. And specifying "excel" picks up file types such as "csv" files.
