Inactive LaunchBar doesn't hide.

Post by FredB » Thu Mar 29, 2007 1:39 am

Hi,

There is one small thing that irritates me with LaunchBar for some time:

When I launch an application with no Dock icon (e.g. Google Notifier or Twitterrific), the launch bar doesn't hide and stay there forever "greyed out".
The only way to hide it, is to activate then hide LB or switch back to an application.

I guess LB can't notice that those "ghost" apps are activated, or something.

So, is this the normal behavior and is there a way to fix it?
If not, wouldn't it be a good idea to auto-hide LB when you don't use it for a specified amount of time?

Thanks.

P.S: I'm using LB 4.2 beta2 (v508) with no Dock icon.

I just registered LaunchBar today and I see this as well.

The General preference "Hide and show the bar automatically" isn't saved for me. It works fine when I check it, but the next time I quit and re-run LaunchBar (such as after logging back in), this preference is un-checked again. Its really annoying!

Both issues will be fixed in the upcoming release of LaunchBar.

Any news as to when the final version will be released?

Yes, it'd be nice to know when we will see a refresh. I've been using beta 2 for 6 months now...

I downloaded 4.3 this morning and I'm having a similar problem. The previous beta had this issue while 4.1.1 did not.

Here's my scenario: I have an AppleScript that I launch many times throughout the day and it takes a command line parameter (it sends to-do items to my Backpack account). I simply invoke LB, type a couple of letters for my script, then hit the period key to go into "parameter" mode. Here's the issue: once I hit the Enter key, it seems like LB should go away and the previously used app should regain focus (which is what 4.1.1 did). The latest versions keep LB active after hitting Enter.

I know this is a relatively minor complaint as I could just hit Esc to jump out of LB, but isn't that the point of a great productivity app like this - saving unneeded keystrokes? :-)

Thanks,
Jason

Just put

Code: Select all

open location "x-launchbar:hide"

at the end of your AppleScript to hide LaunchBar.

With LaunchBar's new x-launchbar URL API it may now make sense to keep LaunchBar active when running a script (e.g. if the script selects something in LaunchBar using the x-launchbar:select command). Therefore it's now up to the script to explicitly decide whether or not to hide LaunchBar.

Awesome - that did the trick. Thanks!
