PDF Category Missing

Post by parker446 » Wed Jun 17, 2009 2:40 am

It just disappeared sometime in the last month or so. I opened the index, looked at the category list, and the PDF category is no longer there.

Just in case I was going crazy and just imagining that there was a PDF category, I checked with another LaunchBar user, and he still has it.

Any suggestions on how to get the PDF category back? Thanks!

If there's at least one PDF document in your LaunchBar index, a PDF Documents category will be created automatically. The Categories indexing rule just reflects what's currently in your index.

I've got over 5000 PDF documents in the index, but it looks as if it is recognizing them as Preview documents rather than PDF documents. I've attached a screenshot from my index. Any way to make LB treat these as PDF documents for the purpose of a PDF category? Thanks!

How are these documents recognized in Finder's Get Info window? Which "Kind" is displayed there?

Same issue here. There isn't a category for "Portable Document Format (PDF)".

Mine are showing up under the category of "Preview Documents" and as per the other posters - there's no "Portable Document Format (PDF)" category.

(I guess this is because people are using SL which has now changed the whole "which app opens which document using creator codes" thing ...)

We’ve now found the cause for this problem. It’s due to a bug in Mac OS X related to translating filename extensions into human readable file types. LaunchBar already includes a workaround for this, but our workaround apparently fails if you’ve turned off the “Show all filename extensions” option in Finder Preferences > Advanced.

We are working on an improved solution for this problem. In the meantime you might turn on “Show all filename extensions” in Finder.
