Any way to stop file extensions from showing up?

Post by jordanekay » Mon Dec 22, 2008 11:41 pm

When I'm browsing files in a folder in LaunchBar, they all appear with their file extension, but on the actual file in the Finder I have the extension set to be hidden. This is not what I want (I don't want the extension to show in LaunchBar). Anyway to change the behavior?

I do think the answer is no for now, but you can submit an official feature request to Objective Development here.

BTW, is it really that bad? I don't usually look at files in LaunchBar too long, and it more often than not helps in distinguishing two files of the same name but different type - which are likely to appear, given that LaunchBar searches by name…

Although I usually have most filename extensions hidden in the Finder (except source code), I actually prefer having them visible in LaunchBar because you can use them as part of your search abbreviation.

For example, if I had two files with similar names:

I could type "pictj" for the JPEG file and "pictp" for the PNG version.
