Speech

Postby ptujec » Sat Dec 03, 2011 12:24 pm

Hi, I would really appreciate if you could share the speech script. Now with a decent German voice in Lion I would like to use both German and English.
I have a basic script but I can't stop it without forcing LaunchBar to quit.

Code: Select all

on handle_string(s)

   say s using "Anna"

end handle_string

As much as I understand, to stop the speech, you need to identify the process that is responsible for the speech and kill it. That is not going to be easy.

This is the best I could do:
Save this script (call it "Restart LaunchBar") as an application:

Code: Select all

do shell script "killall LaunchBar"
tell application "LaunchBar" to activate

Run your script as usual. To stop speaking open "Restart LaunchBar" via Spotlight (very inelegant, I know). If you use any applications (like Spark) that allow you to set global keyboard shortcuts then you can use such shortcut to launch "Restart LaunchBar".

Well, thats what I said. I can't do it WITHOUT FORCING LAUNCHBAR TO QUIT.
The implemented speech action works pretty well but there is no way to change its language … or to use multiple languages.
Thanks anyways.

I used Automator to set up workflows which read text in a selected voice. These can be launched via launchbar und cancelled via the little spinning wheel in the menu bar.
