Finder "Go To Location..." Action?

Postby beerich » Wed Dec 14, 2016 4:42 pm

Hi folks.

Is there an action that allows me to "go to location"? Let's say I want to go to /Library/Preferences/", how can I initiate that in LB? Would be nice if the dropdown provided some kind of navigation through Finder 'pwd'.

Cheers

Yes, it's the default behavior when instant-sending or pasting a path to LaunchBar. It selects the folder in Launchbar. Pressing return opens the folder in Finder. You can use arrow keys and search to navigate in Launchbar. See Documentation here under "Browsing"

Hi there.

I think you've misinterpreted what I'm looking for. I use send-to quite often. But that means initiating from the Finder. I would like to go to a Finder window using Launchbar, much like the Command-G shortcut. So it is 100% Launchbar.

Just navigate to the folder in LaunchBar and press Return. :-D
To start from your home folder start by typing ~ for example...

Would be nice to use completion like Bash. Arrows don't cut it.

You could use the built-in

Code: Select all

Go to
search template.

Bring it up in LaunchBar, paste your desired location to go to, and hit return twice to open that in your default file browser.

Are you talking about Spotlight? I'm confused.

Updated: OK, found it. An Applescript. I was thinking something more integrated with LB directly.

No. It's built into LB.

Try creating it.

Code for "Template URL":

Code: Select all

x-launchbar:select?file=*

Which version of LaunchBar are you using? I am using v6.8.

Not sure then. You may want to contact their support.

Hmm. At risk of misinterpreting what you're looking for - I usually just type ~ to go to my home directory, press → to browse into it, then type a couple of characters to narrow down, then just → and repeat to get somewhere. If it's a hidden or dotfolder, pressing ⌥⇧→ instead of → to show hidden files as you descent your file system. (It also seems you can use / to move to the root of the file system, instead of ~).

Alternately, to jump to a recent or open Finder window, I type 'Finder' then right-arrow to list open and recent finder windows (same way you can launch recent documents in applications).

There's nothing I've seen that autocompletes typing in full paths, though (he says, before he goes off to explore x-launchbar:select?file=*)
