"Latest Download" ala Quicksilver?

Post by normc » Sat Nov 07, 2015 3:23 pm

I'm a QS user looking at Launchbar. This may seem trivial but my most used action on QS is the "Latest Download" action. I understand that this can be accomplished in Launchbar via ⌘+Space, Downloads, → but in QS I only need to type ⌘+Space, L and I have the latest download with which I can perform an action. Is there anything like this in Launchbar?

Hi,

I created a quick action to do this. You can download it from my github account: https://github.com/raguay/MyLaunchBarActions

It is called Quick Launch. I trained Launchbar to open it with the 'l' abbreviation. It is currently set to work with the Downloads directory, but you can change it to any other directory you want in the script. It is documented. I will most likely work on this one some more to add more features, but I thought you might like to test it. Let me know if this is what you were looking for.

15 minutes. No big deal. But, I thought of some more functionality to add to it.....when I have time!

Different words to get different items in the list: second newest, third newest, etc. Set a number to always retrieved that item: set 2 for the second newest, set 3 for the third newest, etc. I can see instances that that would help my workflow some.

You don't have to type "Downloads" to get there. Only DW should suffice, if not set an abbreviation to it, L if you want QS feel. Also instead of → you could just press Spacebar, prob quicker. No need for an action.

Thanks ratty but I think I prefer the action that was made. The action takes me straight to the recent download whereas your suggestion takes me to the downloads folder and requires one more step to get to the latest file.

Hi,

I just updated the Quick Load action to take in a preference file and the Quick Load Options action to set up the preference file. You can now set the directory to be listed by sending the directory to the Quick Load Options action. By running the Quick Load Options action, you can set the listing order (latest modified or latest added) and the order number (first modified, second modified, ...). If you set it to the 5th modified file, but there are only two files, it will correctly get the last modified file. Give it a run and let me know if it works okay for you.

Glad it helps. You can examine these actions to see how to make your own as well. I always learn best by taking apart examples from others.
