Block all Microsoft Word traffic except Printing?

Post by fud » Thu Sep 13, 2007 5:39 pm

I am tired of seeing Word hit my local network every minute or so with local traffic [presumably looking for another copy]. What is an elegant rule to stop ALL [local or internet] Word traffic except printing?

You won't see any type of performance or bandwidth hit by Word sending out a packet checking for other Word applications with the same serial but simply

1) delete all word rules
2) start up word and forever deny any popups
3) when you try to print something allow that rule (assuming you print via a network printer)
4) Buy a copy of MS Office. Student edition is less than $100 A/R and comes with 3 licenses

I purchased Office 2004 long ago, but don't like it using the network this way.
