Snow Leopard boot hangs

Post by johng.sst » Fri Oct 01, 2010 5:12 pm

When I'm connected to the Internet and try to boot my Pro its hangs after I log in.

I'm using SL 10.6.4
lil snitch 2.2.4

If I unplug my network cable and reboot, I'm fine. I can plug in the cable and lil snitch works as it should. I had to uninstall lil snitch to boot with the cable plugged in.

How do I fix this?

Thanks in advance.

john, are you talking about a network cable?
What if you disable Little Snitch (in preferences choose Stop Network Filter)?

Yes, I'm talking about the network cable.

If I stop the network filter I can boot up But doesn't that defeat the purpose of lil' Snitch?

Sure, quite the same as Little Snitch is not installed at all. My question was only for test purposes.

Please use our Support System to send us some logging files:
/Library/Logs/LittleSnitchDaemon.log
~/Library/Logs/LittleSnitch UIAgent.log
~/Library/logs/LittleSnitch Network Monitor.log
As well as the system.log (easiest way is to save it within your Console.app)

Thank you!

Me too. I upgraded to 2.3 and two of three machines I tried hang on boot (one a Mac Pro w/ 10.6.4 client, and one an Intel Mac Mini w/ 10.6.4 server). I'll attempt to use the support system to send logs. When I pulled the ethernet cable and rebooted, it booted fine.

Ditto to previous reports of the system reboot hanging on Blue Screen after installing 2.3.

Version 2.2.4 was fine, hopefully something can be done to identify & rectify this problem.

I have had to uninstall Little Snitch.

Same story here. Blue screen after installing 2.3.
Thank goodness for Timemachine.

Do you have some sort of distributed filesystem (like OpenAFS) installed on your Mac?

And please send us your /var/log/kernel.log file using our support form. Thanks!

I'm having the same issue as others have posted.

The troubleshoot steps I took were to login to safe boot and shut off all network access and then I was able to completely log. Once logged in I restarted network connections and so far so good.. Next step is to reboot and see if MacBook pro continues to allow login or hangs.

I am also having trouble with Little Snitch 2.3 hanging my machine. In my case my MacPro makes it to the login window but then hangs when I try to login. After reading the messages in this forum I disconnected the ethernet cable and restarted and was the able to login normally. I then performed an uninstall on LittleSnitch 2.3, restarted my machine, reconnected the network cable and then installed LittleSnitch 2.2.4 which is working normally. I will submit my system and kernal logs via the support page and hopefully this will help pin down the problem.

We've identified a possible cause of this issue. A new version that should fix the problem can already be downloaded at:

http://www.obdev.at/downloads/LittleSni ... -2.3.1.dmg

This download URL is valid until 2.3.1 is publicly released. Then please download from our regular download page.

Little Snitch 2.3.1 still does NOT resolve the issue with hanging on reboot. I get the same result as I did with 2.3.0. I did reboot in safe mode, uninstalled, and went back to 2.2.4. I'm on a 2008 Mac Pro running OSX 10.6.4. LS 2.3.0 did not have the hang issue with older G4 and G5 machines.
