Why does Little Snitch believe that I'm in Seattle?

Postby cordial » Sat May 26, 2018 4:21 pm

Hello community,
I'm running v4.0.6 (5124) of Little Snitch Network Monitor. The tool believes that my connections are originating out of Seattle WA, which is not my geolocation. When I look up my public IP address via ipchicken or other 'whats my ip address' tools online, they all find my accurate IP and it's geolocation. I'm not attached to a VPN, so I'm confused what is causing LS to think that I'm in the Pacific NW.

Is there a way to troubleshoot this? Can I look up what LS believes to be my IP address?

Has anyone else seen this issue?

thx - cordial

It thinks I am in Seattle, too. I am nowhere near Seattle. Like you, my geolocation is correctly recognized by all other apps.

Are you guys using a VPN that is connecting to a server there perhaps?

Not me. No VPN at all. And, as mentioned, all other "where are you" tools correctly identify my location, give or take a few zip codes.

If all else fails, you can drag that dot, to your current location .

With factory settings, Little Snitch determines your current location from your Language and Region Settings in System Preferences. This is the default because it can be done without querying any remote servers.

If you want to refine your position, you have two options:

+ Tell Little Snitch to use Apple Location Services to determine your location. This will keep your current location up-to-date. Open Little Snitch Configuration > Preferences > Monitor > “Automatically update my location in map” or right-click into the map and choose Set My Location Automatically.
+ Right-click the map where you are currently located and choose Set My Location Here from the context menu.
