Beta 4 licensing question

Hi,

As a paid up owner of v3, would it not be possible for my license to be valid for the beta 4 through the beta period, then expire, rather than having to pay for a product in beta that I can't properly evaluate as it is not final?

I appreciate the need to sustain income and I've happily upgraded from v2 to v3, but I do object at the fact the beta 4 times out without a valid license when it's not even a final product.

Kind regards

Steve.

I have the same question.

I don't even mind upgrading versions 3->4 right now, but as the upgrade in the store seems to be 2->3 it does not seem that this is yet possible.

Really liking the new v4 features, the visualisation is awesome. Well done.

Cheers,
David

On the Little Snitch 4 Public Beta download page there's a license key that lets you run the beta until October:
https://obdev.at/littlesnitch-beta/

And the upgrades available in the store are already upgrades to version 4:

So does anyone know when exactly will the cutoff date be for purchasing a v3 license and getting an upgrade to v4 .

I'll be pretty miffed to have just purchased v3 a month ago and then have to repurchase a v4 upgrade because I didn't buy v3 once the v4 public beta had launched.

(Getting ready to be miffed......)

Regards
Radar

no need to be miffed, on the shop page you can read:

A new major release of Little Snitch is coming soon. All licenses sold now can be used to register both, version 3 and the new version 4 of Little Snitch.

I´ve used 4beta since it came out (and version 3 for a long time) and I find it to be very reliable and much more versatile than v3. So i would use 4beta right from the start if I were you. The beta license lasts til October and I am pretty sure the release version will be ready before then.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

The website post seems to imply v3 licenses purchased now will be good for v4. I purchased my less than 4 weeks ago (at time of writing the original post).

I think it needs clarifying from when the v3 licenses will be honoured in v4.

Kind Regards
Radar

My V3 license I was issued on 5/31 does not work to register V4.

I was participating in the LittleSnitch-4.0-public-beta with the publicly provided license key(can supply key if asked) from the now inactive "https://obdev.at/littlesnitch-beta/" said to expire on October 10, 2017. After updating last night, Little Snitch is now telling me that the key is invalid. Help?

Thanks guys!

My guess is that the update you performed actually upgraded the beta version to the release version.

As the key is only valid for a beta version it will get throttled back to demo mode. To use v4 as you have it you will need a valid v4 license, not the public beta license.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the beta version should work until Oct with the beta license key. But I'm only surmising.

I have a general query re v3 licenses and the 'cut off' for using that license on v4. As yet all v3 license codes, no matter how old/new, don't work with v4. Lots of people who bought v3 in the last 4-6 weeks have yet to find out if v3 licenses will be honoured in v4 and when exactly the last date of v3 purchase to qualify is.

My personal (and slightly selfish) view is that it should be at least a month before the public beta first came out, which I believe was the 6th June. Therefore if you bought a license on or after 6th May (12th May for me!) it would be nice to have that v3 license honoured in v4. But thats just my viewpoint.

Hope this all makes sense.

Thanks Radar :D . I still had the installer for the public beta 1. Once I reinstalled with that, my public beta key was accepted.
