Re: Subscribing to blacklists

We have set the limit for each subscription because other limits are hard to explain. If you subscribe multiple feeds, each going to the limit, you will notice performance issues. The limit and what is counted is subject to change.

Re: 4.0.3 has huge memory and CPU footprint in High Sierra

Thanks for the `heap` output! Unfortunately it does not list the large sections, so it's not much help. So let me summarize: - Network Monitor sometimes swallows a large chunk of memory (several 100 MB). - The memory is not freed (maybe it's freed some times, but we won't notice those chunks). - The...

Re: Subscribing to blacklists

You can't fix it at the moment. Parts of the code use algorithms with computing time proportional to the square of the number of hosts/domains. We have to identify all those code places and find alternative algorithms, if possible. For the moment, providers of managed rules must either make a select...

Re: 4.0.3 has huge memory and CPU footprint in High Sierra

We need to get more information about where the large blocks are allocated and what they contain. We can't use the debugger, though, due to security settings. But as far as I can tell, the `heap` tool should work. So please try the following: Open Activity Monitor to find the PID (Process ID) of Lit...

Re: Subscribing to blacklists

Which version of Little Snitch do you use? We are aware of this problem and have therefore limited the maximum amount of domains/hosts which can be referenced in a subscription to 10,000. This is in the final 4.1, so you're probably running an older nightly release. If you upgrade, please upgrade to...

Re: Stop recording browsing history!

Little Snitch is doing it this way since almost 15 years and it's just now that people begin to complain. Regarding privacy: Little Snitch shows this information to YOU, the owner of the computer and the person who initiated the connections. It becomes a problem only if you let somebody else use you...

Re: LS 4.1 too much CPU in the background

We are talking about an increase of CPU load from below 1% (as far as I remember and people reported) to 3 to 5% on one CPU (out of 4). I have not noticed this on my machine until somebody pointed us to it. If you want to wait, OK, but I think it's not such a big deal. If it's more than the 3 to 5% ...

Re: LS 4.1 too much CPU in the background

If you contact us in support, we can make 4.0.6 available for you. We want to have everybody on the latest version because each release fixes bugs, some of them are vulnerabilities. E.g. 4.1 fixes CVE-2018-10470. Xcode / Profile / CPU does not help in this case as the time is spent in the kernel mod...

Thanks again! This time the relation to CoreAnimation is not so pronounced: CoreAnimation 00000001147a9000-00000001147de000 [ 212K 212K 212K 0K] rw-/rwx SM=SHM PURGE=V VM_ALLOCATE 00000001147ec000-0000000175824000 [ 1.5G 0K 0K 1.5G] rw-/rwx SM=PRV MALLOC_LARGE 0000000175824000-0000000175ac9000 [ 270...

Re: LS 4.1 too much CPU in the background

The 4.1.1 nightly does not address this issue. We have not found out what causes the increased CPU load since the code involved was not changed since 4.0.6. It must be a side-effect of an other change. Network Monitor receives notifications about all connections regardless of the filter state. Even ...

Re: LS 4.1 too much CPU in the background

This is a different issue. You are primarily seeing a high CPU load on Little Snitch Daemon, probably due to a high rate of DNS lookups. Optimizing this part of the code is on our to-do list.

Re: LS 4.1 too much CPU in the background

ACK, I can reproduce this. Strange, though, because we did not change anything in the code responsible for this. A spindump reveals nothing unusual, so we'll have to dig deeper...

Re: 4.0.3 has huge memory and CPU footprint in High Sierra

Thanks a lot for the diagnostics report! As far as I can tell, there must be a problem with your graphics driver. This may not be directly related to your memory issue, but it's impacting responsiveness and performance of your computer. In the LS Daemon logs, I can see tons of messages like this: 20...

Re: 4.0.3 has huge memory and CPU footprint in High Sierra

When it "quit unexpectedly", it leaves a crash log in ~/Library/Logs. You can view it with Console.app, or it's included (among lots of other info) when you send us a diagnostics report. You can do so by following these steps: • Open Little Snitch Configuration • Click “Help” in the menu b...

Re: 4.0.3 has huge memory and CPU footprint in High Sierra

You make a snapshot of the current connections window by hitting Cmd-D or by choosing File > Make Snapshot from the menu. You can save and load snapshots. This feature can be used to analyze something without hurry. Since you did not know about it, it's probably not the cause. And I have just tried ...
