It seems the "nonactivating mode" allows you to invoke LaunchBar without bringing it to the front. This is more apparent if you run LaunchBar with the Dock icon visible. I'm not really sure why you would want to do this however. I tried it for a while but later decided I liked it better wi...

Although I usually have most filename extensions hidden in the Finder (except source code), I actually prefer having them visible in LaunchBar because you can use them as part of your search abbreviation. For example, if I had two files with similar names: Picture.jpg Picture.png I could type "...

That would be a nice addition. Have you sent the request directly to Objective Development? There's a "Send Email" button at the bottom of this page:

You should be able to see the path of the current selection to the right of the item name on the bar. Also, you can see paths on items in search results by going to Preferences -> Appearance -> Search Result Menu -> Show Details. Then select the "Name and Details" option from the menu. -De...

Maybe you could hit Command-Shift-G in the Save dialog to bring up the Go To Folder sheet. Then invoke LaunchBar to find the folder you want and paste its path into the Go To Folder sheet. I haven't tried this myself (I'm on my iPhone right now) but it seems like it should work with no mouse interac...

The best source of information is the LaunchBar Help file under Help -> LaunchBar Help. There's so much good info in there that you should read it end-to-end! There are also a couple of screencasts available online. They were made for LaunchBar 4 but they still mostly apply to LaunchBar 5 as well. I...

LaunchBar works with BBEdit project files like any other types of files. You just have to make sure your BBEdit projects are actually located someplace that LaunchBar indexes. By default, LaunchBar does not index your entire Documents folder (I think it only scans the top level by default). If your ...

Topic: How to use "space" and NOT invoke Quick Look
Replies: 3

It's important to understand that LaunchBar is designed to search by abbreviation , not by conventional phrases or keywords. So spaces are unnecessary. As you discovered, the space key is reserved for other purposes: Quick Look if the item is a file or sub-searches for collections of items (e.g. fol...

LaunchBar doesn't currently support assigning keyboard shortcuts to items. LaunchBar's focus is on abbreviation searches: invoke LaunchBar, type in an abbreviation, and so on. You can, however, assign a single-character abbreviation to an item so you could invoke LaunchBar and then hit that single c...

It's important to understand that LaunchBar doesn't provide a traditional search interface like Spotlight (although you can launch Spotlight searches from within LaunchBar). LaunchBar specializes in abbreviation searches. So rather than typing a conventional search phrase, enter some combination of ...

Hmm, Open Meta looks interesting. One thing that has long puzzled me is that some apps (e.g. OmniOutliner Pro) provide a way to store Spotlight Keywords (in addition to Spotlight Comments ) with a file. These keywords are not stored in the standard kMDItemFinderComment key, which is where Spotlight ...

Mac OS X refuses to dispatch keypress events while you're typing in a "secure" text field. Although not strictly necessary this restriction applies to modifier keypresses as well. So LaunchBar simply doesn't "see" these modifier taps, since their dispatch is suppressed by the sy...

Has anyone else noticed that the single or double tap modifier keys don't seem to work for activating LaunchBar when your cursor is in a password field in Safari? I haven't tested other browsers.
