Re: QUESTIONS FOR POTENTIAL BUYER

Actually, there is one major issue (which has been corrected in the nightly builds). The current 2.1.3 release version, after installation on a 10.4.11 system, will hang the boot process. It can be worked around, but ONLY by those who are fairly tech savvy (i.e. do a safe boot). To those who never h...

Re: 2.1.3 A few questions

Must say I LOVE network monitor! IMO there is an issue with how you set up "forever" rules. If you allow for the domain "culturecode.com" that rule will have no effect if a request comes from, say "updates.cultureclub.com." I understand the devs are being overly cautiou...

Re: dnetc

Ah, thanks so much. Indeed there is something a tad funky... one doesn't "launch" the application by any usual methods. To get it to be a startup item, it needs to put another Unix program in the /Library/Startup Items folder.

Re: not saving settings

Firefly, you always have the option of getting a free, web-based e-mail address (i.e. google, yahoo).

Re: LittleSnitch 2.0.5: How do you disable those audio prompts?

It sounds like it's a text-to-speech function which is very much OS based. Not sure about 10.5.x, but in 10.4.11, there is a perf in System Preferences/Speech for turning off a "Announce when alerts are displayed" setting.

Host Names & IP Addresses

I mentioned this is another thread, but now have more specific examples. It seems that before anything else, LS resolves a host name into an IP address; the issue arises in that most expectations indicate an "allow" to a TLD (top level domain) would also resolve sub domains. However, it se...

Re: Duplicate Rules Bug?

if connection to weather.com is allowed, why would it want to create another rule to connect to image.weather.com or xoap.weather.com? Because these are different hosts that resolve to different IP addresses. Honestly, I'd expect that allowing a top level domain would also allow any subdomains. Th...

Re: How about the ability to export/import rules 1 by 1

Wow, this is great... I already filed a bug report and used a screen grab of the rule... in the future, I'll use this functionality!

NB, I notice is does not seem to indicate where a rule is temporary or permanent...

Re: Duplicate Rules Bug?

Which version of Little Snitch do you have installed? Which version of Mac OS X are you running? Please select those two identical rules in the Little Snitch Configuration appliaction (hold down the Command key to select multiple rules), press Command-C and paste the results here, or even better, s...

Re: How to import/use rules from 1.2.2 in 2.1.3?

Apparently there was much added in 2.x that they couldn't figure out a way to import the custom rules. I was upset at first, but on using 2.x for the past 4-5 days I see it's not near the issue I thought it might be (it ain't free of issues, but none of what I'm seeing has much to do with old rules)...

Connection Attempt History?

I forget in which thread, but I caught a sentence from one of the devs that seemed (to me) to imply there was a sort of history of network connection attempts. I thought "Wow, what a great feature." Unfortunately, I can't seem to find anything even alluding to it in the config application....

Duplicate Rules Bug?

When I booted my machine this morning, I got a LS alert about Apple's software update. Struck me as curious as I had implemented a permanent rule allowing it to contact Apple yesterday. I dealt with the alert by choosing only the server address, port & protocol as Any, and "Forever." S...

Re: Little Snitch itself phones home!

There are a few things developers do to insure serials are legit. One of by the algorithm they use to generate serials... it can "tell" if a legit serial is being used. Second, some have black lists of pirated serials (sometimes, a serial used for piracy has originated with a legit purchas...

Re: dnetc

OK, looks like the paths LS shows are full from the volume. Even more curious is that the "invalid rule that works" shows "./dnetc," which looks exactly like what one has to type in Terminal to launch the application. I checked my "root" and there is no copy of dnetc th...

dnetc

Think I may have come across a bug. dnetc is an application for swapping data with distributed.net (it both gets and sends data). Right after I booted with LS 2 active, I immediately allowed it. Some time later as I was playing with rules, I saw it listed in red... checking the doc told me that mean...
