Re: Stop recording browsing history!

"Hide from Network Monitor" rules are now available in version 4.1.4 nightly (build 5188). Some fine tuning is still required, but the feature will be in the next release. Note: If you add a rule to hide connections from Network Monitor, connections stored so far are not automatically dele...

Re: How to disable notification on denied incoming connection?

That's another possibility. If you just want to silence notifications for incoming connections, make a rule for them in Little Snitch. Without a rule, incoming connections are denied. So, if you make a deny-rule, the behavior is unchanged, but no notification will be shown.

Re: update to 4.1.1 = problems

I know of one bug which caused this with only a hand full of rules, but that had been fixed in 4.1.1.

If anybody experiences such a hang, please make a spindump or at least a sample of the hanging process(es). We are happy to fix these issues if we can get enough information to track them down!

Re: LS 4.1.2 - Unable to install on OSX El Capitan

Little Snitch installer references /usr/bin/python by absolute path. If you deleted it, you'll run into troubles. It might work if you link the homebrew python there, but I'd rather recommend to restore Apple's original. There might be another copy on the recovery partition, you can get one from a f...

Re: LS 4.1.2 - Unable to install on OSX El Capitan

That should install an additional python, not replace the one from the system. On 10.13.6 I get the following checksum: $ shasum /usr/bin/python 07565e53061f5a9588ab362dc987e5d56b8b8127 /usr/bin/python Another possibility is that Apple's original python loads a library from homebrew's python. Don't ...

Re: 4.0.3 has huge memory and CPU footprint in High Sierra

Yes. Regarding the Network Monitor memory consumption issue: The "lost memory" should not affect your system, in theory, because the memory is never used and can be swapped out completely. I know that this is not 100% true in practice and the effort of administering swap space costs a bit ...

Re: 4.0.3 has huge memory and CPU footprint in High Sierra

Network Monitor is independent of the filter. The network filter is installed in the kernel and filters all data packets sent or received according to your rules. Network Monitor, on the other hand, receives connection data and visualizes it. If you want to work without Network Monitor, turn it off ...

Re: LS 4.1.2 - Unable to install on OSX El Capitan

As far as I know, it's not the version but rather a compile time option which causes the problem. Users who have replaced python in /usr/bin/ (instead of installing a second python binary e.g. in /usr/local/bin) often experience problems with our installer.

Re: 4.0.3 has huge memory and CPU footprint in High Sierra

I think we have identified the cause for the alert loops and will fix it in one of the upcoming nightly releases.

But the other issue, the hang in the graphics driver and the lost memory blocks -- no idea. Sorry. I'm just running out of ideas...

Re: update to 4.1.1 = problems

Version 4.1 had a bug which caused LS to check code signatures of all apps after the upgrade from 3.x or 4.0 to 4.1. This should have been fixed in 4.1.1. If you still have the problem with the current version (4.1.2), please make a spindump while it's hanging and mail it to us in support. You can m...

Re: How to disable notification on denied incoming connection?

Incoming UDP connections are denied, if no rule exists. Instead of suppressing the notification, just make a rule. If you make a deny rule, it's the same as just suppressing the notification. If you make an allow rule, automatic discovery of computers and other resources in the local network will wo...

Re: LS 4.1.2 - Unable to install on OSX El Capitan

If you have not received a reply for weeks, your request must have been dropped in our system somehow... Please send another e-mail to the same ticket, that should bring it up again. Regarding the issue: I can think of two possible causes for this: (1) The installer has a dependency on Python. If yo...

Re: Rule Groups: Great idea but not very useful right now. I have suggestions!

We have improved the object archiving performance in 4.1.3 nightly and thus (experimentally) increased the maximum amount of rules in a subscription to 100k. If anybody wants to try this, please download 4.1.3 nightly. Rule set analysis in Little Snitch Configuration and Network Monitor is still slo...

Re: LS 4.1 too much CPU in the background

We have identified the cause for this: A memory leak in the kernel extension. The kext had to check lots of leaked memory when looking for traffic statistics.

The issue is fixed in 4.1.2 and in the new 4.1.3 nightly build.

Re: 4.0.3 has huge memory and CPU footprint in High Sierra

Let me first respond to the alert loop: This happens if Little Snitch cannot determine the host name for the remote computer uniquely. If there are multiple names and applying rules to all these names does not yield the same result (allow or deny), Little Snitch shows an alert for the IP address. No...
