Re: Executing commands in Terminal

switch to text-entry/typing mode (does that even exist? It does in Quicksilver!) It does exist in LaunchBar: type "ET" or a similar abbreviation to find the "Enter Text" command. But you don't really need it in LaunchBar because you can enter text directly in the "Run Termi...

Re: Executing commands in Terminal

If the current item on the bar is a directory location, you can hit Option-Command-T for "Run Terminal Command Here..." and Shift-Command-T for "Run Terminal Command With...". Is that what you're looking for?

Re: Upgrade or License

Do you already own a license for a previous version of LaunchBar? If so, buy the upgrade license.

If you don't already have a license for a previous version, buy the standard LaunchBar 5 license.

Have you tried typing the name of the file you want to open, then hit Tab and type the name of the app you want to open it with? As for /etc being in your index, do you have LaunchBar set to scan the contents of the directory or just the directory name itself? Note that if you're simply using Launch...

Why not just select an email address in LaunchBar and hit the spacebar? Then enter your message and hit Return.

The workflow is a bit different but seems to be about the same amount of work, maybe less. And it doesn't require a custom script.

maybe a LaunchBar action should be included "Make Shell Script executable"

And maybe include Automator Workflows too.

Only if Finder shows a file as a "Unix Executable File" we can safely assume that it is indeed executable. To be clear then, kastorff's suggestion is the correct approach, right? That is, set the "Open With" app to Terminal and make sure the file is executable. For my test on a ...

I speculate that the key here is that LB has to recognize the script as an executable so that it can execute it instead of opening it, including the option of executing it in the background. That recognition just doesn't seem to be there, regardless of the extension or "open with" associa...

Yeah, setting type and creator seems like an odd requirement to me as well. Yesterday, I tried setting a simple Ruby script to open with Terminal (using the Finder's Get Info window). Running it from LaunchBar or the Finder results in Terminal opening and running the script. Is that the expected beh...

I agree. Renaming the feature to something else to disassociate it from Mac OS X's .textClipping feature would be a step in the right direction. But what to name it? Making good use of OS X's thesaurus: snippets fragments extracts excerpts bits particles chips shards scraps shreds flakes wisps or my...

I don't use Camino, but this should work, I believe. First open Script Editor. You can find it at: /Applications/AppleScript/Script Editor.app Then paste in the line below and change the URL to whatever you want. tell application "Camino.app" to open location "http://www.obdev.at/&quo...

Ah yes, I see that now. Sorry, I misunderstood your original post.

So what browser is it that you need to use to open this URL? Maybe one of us can help you with a script.

Why not just select the bookmark, hit Tab, and then select the browser you want? Yeah, it's an extra step but still seems pretty easy. I guess it depends on how many of the special bookmarks you have and how often you use them.

You know, I could have sworn I saw the same problem in some testing a few weeks ago but just assumed I was doing something wrong. Maybe we're on to something. Do you have execution privileges set for the script? You must if it's running fine in Terminal. So that's probably not it. Ultimately, I just...

I have never been able to insert contents of a regular text file simply by selecting and hitting Return (as can be done with LaunchBar text clips). If that were the normal behavior, how would you open a regular text file with TextEdit or BBEdit without doing a send operation? However, you can copy a...
