Re: Rules with a pattern match?

I like this idea. However, it would be most useful as a "template". Where you say, "Here's the rules for how apps that match this name should be treated.", and when a new app is seen for the first time that matches the pattern, Little Snitch should provide a pop-up that asks if you're good with appl...

Re: Which ports to block osx?

yeah but ---> for example why would - touristd - first startup 'Welcome to macOS' have anything to do with internet if its a start up screen? Don't know. It could be a stats update to inform Apple of another installation. It could be a content pull because they don't bundle all welcome data with th...

Re: License upgrades are a scam

I have to upgrade with Mojave, I didn't expect LS to stop working and I feel cheated that the fix costs 25 euros in an upgrade license. I have to bite the bullet for now but this is my last upgrade, nobody will convince me that it is a reasonable cost to keep it working. I don't want new features, ...

Re: Mac question: How can I forbid sending speech data to apple?

I apologize for the information free post, but I think it's necessary to point out that if you distrust the maker of your operating system, you should re-examine your choice of operating system. I should also point out that Apple is the only major OS vendor that makes personal privacy a marketing po...

Re: A couple of feature requests

Here's a few more: 1. Handle app updates intelligently: Notice that an app has "likely" been updated and ask the user if they want to transfer the old rules to the updated app. 2. Provide whois information for IP ranges. 3. Allow rules to be merged. Selecting a range of compatible rules an...

Re: Any chance for a Linux version of Little Snitch?

I love, love, love Linux. Use it every single day. I have dozens of Linux boxes and VMs I use at my home. From light-weight Docker instances to an HP ProLiant server. The one thing I don't use it for? A daily desktop machine. Linux doesn't suck at being a desktop. It's much better then it used to be...

Re: Little Snitch and VPN

It doesn't. At least for the ones I use. Not sure for all of them. You can have Little Snitch automatically switch profiles based on VPNs connecting and disconnecting. But the VPNs hide packet information from Little Snitch so the rules don't work correctly. Specifically everything is by IP address,...

Re: "The process has no code signature. The executable can be maliciously modified without being detected."

Little Snitch tracks the application signatures that macOS supports. Applications are signed by developers using the development certificates they get from Apple. All apps purchased through the Mac App Store are signed. Developers can also sign apps outside of the app store. As far as I know, only *...

Re: How to use Little Snitch?

First off. You are all correct. If you don't know anything about networking, then Little Snitch isn't very useful to you as it sits. Even those of us who do, can get confused. I'm still struggling with priorities in Little Snitch. I would love for Little Snitch to have more "intelligence" ...

If you're a software developer... allow all outgoing connections.

If you're not, allow all outgoing connections for port 80 and 8080.

Command-line programs built by Homebrew don't have cryptographic signatures. So Little Snitch is going to (rightly) complain about their lack. But there's nothing that can be done about it.

Want to be able to merge domain rules

Domain rules build up for some apps (I'm looking at you, Battle.net). It would be great if you could select a list of rules and Merge them. The merge would only be available if the rules were compatible (same port, same method). This would create a new rule with all of the domains and delete the old...
