I'm in the very beginning stages of planning a commercial product, and looked into purchasing them earlier this week. While Digikey doesn't have any in stock, when I put in that I was willing to buy 100 of them, their estimated ship date was tomorrow. So while they're not falling out of the bushes, they're not unobtainable, either.

I would imagine that the expense of the few programmers which will work with them is probably a larger barrier than availability. If this project comes to fruition, I'll bite the bullet and purchase one - even if I only ran the thing at 20MHz, it's the same cost as a Mega option, and is guaranteed to run 20MHz @3.3V.

32MHz, however, could either allow more work on the USB frames, or more for the actual application.

Such a good idea. But is there any chances in implementing several xmega devices widely now? Are they largely marketed now? No more doubt, xmega has so much and complete peripheral in it.

Are there any plans to support AVR-USB with the new XMega chips? I assume (although could be incorrect) that it would just be a matter of supporting a 32MHz clock speed.

It would seem like a high clock speed and 3.3V VCC would be perfect!
