Login hangs after upgrading to 2.1.1

Postby MartinJ » Mon May 11, 2009 9:40 pm

I tried installing 2.1.1 several times. However, my system (10.5.6) freezes every time at the login after the nessesary reboot.
-> I select my username, type the password, press return and my Mac freezes. The login dialoge stays and the beachball will spin forever.

Rebooting in safe mode let's me uninstall 2.1.1 and re-install 2.0.5 which seems to run fine.
I can't find any obvious error message in the console.

Any idea what went wrong :?:

I am having same issue. 10.5.6 with mobile user account. Directory Service availability shows as unavailable until Snitch 2.1.1 is uninstalled... I reverted as well to 2.05.

I am also having this problem. If you unplug from the network you are able to login. Not a great solution, but it works. Please fix ASAP OBDEV!

Me too!

I updated using using Versiontracker Pro so didn't have the latest installer with uninstaller. Right after the restart I attempted to login and got a frozen screen.

I tried Launching Little Snitch Configuration while in Safe Mode. It said it was broken and provided a link to the latest update to download so I could uninstall Little Snitch!

In my case the installers crash, before installing...i try uninstalling the older version (2.0.5i) & is the same. But the older version (2.0.5i) re-installing without any problem... (MacBookPro, OS X 10.5.6)

Hi Folks

This did NOT solve the login issue for me. FYI, my main user folders are kept on a physically separate drive. Backup user accounts on the OS drive do, however, work. Also the 422 nightly build exhibited the same problem.

The remaining issues are addressed within the nightly build 423 of Little Snitch 2.1.3. Will now work with network user accounts on OS X 10.4.11 machines.

The nightly build can be downloaded from

Nightly build 2.1.3.423 does not work for me. I first upgraded to 2.1.1 and my computer would not longer get past the "Mac Starting UP" screen. After rebooting in Safe mode and uninstalling 2.1.1, I could start up in normal mode. After installing 2.1.3.423, my computer hung up again. I have again uninstalled the software. I will go back to 2.0.5.

I had a similar issue (login was interrupted by asking wether mDnsResponder was a nice guy or not) which has been seamlessly fixed by LittleSnitch.2.1.3.423_nightly.

iMac9,1/2.66GHz/4GB running 10.5.7.

Thanks and servus, obdev!

Just another data point:

10.4.11 (PPC)
2.1.1 all OK
2.1.3 stalls before login screen - force reboot

Safe boot to remove 2.1.3, reinstall 2.1.1, all OK again.
From the system.log:
